DM vs Distilled vs De-Ionised Water: What's the Difference?

"Purified water" is not one thing. For industry, labs and manufacturing, the type of purified water you use matters a lot. Let us break down the three most common grades we supply.

DM (Demineralised) Water

Minerals and salts are removed through ion exchange, giving a very low TDS (around 0.07 ppm). It is the workhorse for boilers, cooling towers and manufacturing where scale build-up must be avoided.

Distilled Water

Produced by boiling water to steam and condensing it back to liquid, leaving impurities behind. With conductivity below 1 µS/cm it is ideal for laboratories, pharmaceuticals and precision medical use.

De-Ionised (DI) Water

Ions are stripped out to leave electrically "neutral" water. It is preferred for batteries, electronics and cooling systems where mineral content would cause corrosion or shorts.

Which one do you need?
